Trick or Treat?
An evening of magic and mystery

On 31st October at 8:00pm our popular Wednesday Club presented an evening of magic and mystery in our Centenary room. Ray Garnett, who has been into magic since an early age, spoke about magic, being a magician and demonstrating numerous magical mysteries.

The event was a fund raising evening in our Centenary Room with donations going towards our boiler fund. The evening raised about £65.

Bonfire Night

So here is something that went with with a bang! Saturday 3rd November was our annual Bonfire Night with fireworks and a hot supper included.

An enjoyable social evening was had by those that attended and a small profit was made that contributed towards our boiler fund account.

Christmas Fayre

I can't believe it, but yes, Christmas is now less that 50 days away as I publish this. So why not put Saturday 1st December in your diary to attend our annual Christmas Fayre. Just the place to visit to find those "odd" Christmas stocking fillers and at the same time contribute to our Church funds. All the usual stalls plus a few extras are likely to be on display.

As usual refreshments will be available so you can just pop in for lunch if you don't have much time in the pre-Christmas period.

Do refer to our Diary Dates page for other up and coming events in our calendar.

Boiler Fund

In March 2007 we learnt that our three boilers were on their last legs and needed urgently replacing, in fact the third boiler was only just working using bits taken from our other two boilers. The cost would be in the region of £30,000. We applied to get grants from the Circuit but even if these were forthcoming we would have to try to raise a substantial sum ourselves. Some money is availabe through our property reserve account but a fundraising committee has been set up to generate extra funding and is aiming to raise £10,000 in 3 years to repay a Circuit gift.

A number of initiatives have come forward, the first being the introduction of a 'Copper Bottle' for you to dispose of your copper coins - althought silver, notes or any bullion will be welcome! If you have some loose change then do please drop it into the bottle on the shelf at the back of the Church.

In the second month of our fund raising the committee launched Buy-a-Boiler Boxes. Households were invited to take home small collection boxes and every week would be invited to make a donation according to their means. The amount of contribution would be highlighted each week in the Church newsletter HMC News.

Our third fund raiser would consist of various events and already we have had a Barn Dance and plan to have a Quiz evening, a Christmas Fair, a table sale outside the Church one Saturday, a £2 coin challenge, an Auction of Promises and a Concert in March 2008.

If you want to get involved either helping out with events or as a contributor then please contact one of our Church Stewards.
