At
our Harvest Festival service in 1999 our Building Fund Project was
launched to raise funds to refurbish the front of our Church. This
involved "opening up" the front of the Church to make it
lighter and more inviting yet keep its architectural facade on the
outside. The project principally involved:
- creating
a new welcoming lobby which could double up as a meeting room,
(now called the Centenary Room),
- constructing
a quiet room for prayer, private discussion and a children's area
but with any active service being piped through speakers if required,
- creating
a kitchen area,
- installing
toilet facilities including nappy changing and disabled facilities.
The project cost
in the region of £180,000 which the Church set a target of
raising within 4 years ready for our Centenary year. Remarkably,
the funds were raised within about 2¼ years and our new renovations
were dedicated and opened in time for our Christmas celebrations
in 2001.
Given the time span of the project, it was a remarkable achievement and we thank God for the support and love he gave us in meeting our goals. The usage we have got from our new facilities has been incredible and we thank all who helped us to build our Church's new area.
